Decorative trims for premium automobiles are increasingly equipped with customizable contour or ambient lighting. In addition, there is a wide range of decors (plastic, wood, metal, carbon or combinations thereof) from which the customer can choose.
All this has to be checked - especially whether the light distribution is uniform over the entire length of the run. No customer accepts irregularities such as hot spots or dark spots at this point. The concept of the testing equipment then depends on the customer`s production philosophy.
In this case, the inspection is carried out by a fully automatic system that is integrated into the customer`s production line.
The fully assembled decorative trims enter the end-of-line inspection system as a vehicle set in special workpiece carriers.
Two components are always inspected simultaneously.
In the test area, which is protected from ambient light, they are presented by a handling system in front of stationary high-resolution industrial color cameras.
The LED drivers are contacted by a SCARA robot with camera position recognition.
The entire actuator and test technology is controlled by the ZU-Control software and connected to the higher-level PLC via ProfiNET.
The cycle time is about 15s for two components.
Solution:
- Inline test cell with component handling made of aluminum system profiles.
- Integration in automation with workpiece carrier circulation system
- Contacting via SCARA robot
- LIN controller to control the LED modules
- Extraneous light shielding with dark, non-reflective coating for reproducible test results
