The inspection system measures the diameter and shape of the edges of round plastic parts with a measurement resolution of approx. 1µm

The system is designed as an inline solution with a cycle time of 1.5 seconds per measurement.
Diameter and roundness are measured with a laser scanner during rotation of the part with a measurement resolution of approx. 1µm.
The nominal diameter of the parts is between 12 mm and 32 mm.
Any concentricity error of the part is mathematically eliminated.
In addition the complete ejection of the plastic is inspected with a shape control of the outer edge.
For the cyclic control of the measuring system a part of known dimension is automatically measured.
The system prints a measurement protocol for documentation after each test cycle.
Measurement inaccuracies due to temperature variations are compensated for by the use of temperature sensors both on the measured parts as well as on the plant.
In addition, the thermal expansion of the system is determined by a special traversable reference part.

Using the correction amount obtained with the reference part a temperature- independent and reproducible measurement results can be assured even in the rough environment of a fully automated plastic injection foundry.
All measurement results are logged and stored in a central database.
The camera with telecentric lens and telecentric LED backlight automatically moves along the outer edge of the part.
The vision system also controls the overall process including the motoric movement and performs communication with the superior system control via TCP / IP.
