The vision system automatically controls the diameter and the pitch of a thread in a metal moulding. A LED lighting with indirect illumination, an LED point emitter and a background LED lighting are used as light sources which can be switched by the control computer. In addition to the thread dimensional measuring several control measurements of the workpiece and the accurate bent of mounting loops are controlled. The vision system also checks for the existence of a sealing ring.
On a conveyor the work pieces are transported into the measuring cabin. There they are stopped and then separated.
After all tests have been performed, the work pieces are released again. Bad parts will be removed by a pneumatic slider.
The user configures the test methods used for the measuring process for the camera. The measuring is performed automatically after triggering through an inductive sensor. The measuring result is displayed on the screen for control purposes.
The vision system based on a PC uses two cameras and three switchable special lightings. Three camera pictures are taken for an analysis. A trackball is used for operation. The mechanic to separate work pieces and the removal of bad parts is controlled completely by the vision system. The cycle time is less than 1 second.
