PLC Control and Robotics
Standardized in concept – individually implemented.
For special-purpose machinery, Ziemann & Urban develops customized PLC control solutions for integration into complex, highly automated machines and production lines. Both systems from Siemens (TIA Portal) and PC-based control platforms from Beckhoff (TwinCAT) are utilized.
Control system architectures are designed on a project-specific basis, taking into account the typical requirements of special-purpose machine building, such as flexibility, high product variance, optimized cycle times, and future expandability. The focus lies on deterministic processes, precise motion control, and seamless system integration.
Standardized in concept – individually implemented.
Key technological competencies:
- … development of modular and scalable software architectures in accordance with IEC 61131-3
- … integration of industrial communication systems such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, and EtherCAT
- … implementation of functional safety solutions (e.g. F-CPU, TwinSAFE) in compliance with EN ISO 13849 and IEC 62061
- … realization of advanced motion control applications (e.g. cam profiles, interpolation, synchronization)
- … integration and coordination of robotic systems from various manufacturers
- … use of standardized software modules to reduce engineering effort and commissioning time
- … comprehensive diagnostic, trace, and visualization capabilities for efficient commissioning and maintenance
Communication between machine modules, higher-level systems, and IT infrastructure is implemented via standardized interfaces such as OPC UA, as well as established industrial communication protocols. This ensures seamless integration into existing production environments and long-term scalability.
In special-purpose machine building, the close interaction between PLC, motion control, and robotics enables the realization of highly dynamic, customer-specific processes while maintaining high system availability and transparency.
